Foreword..

The previous blog of LastBenchers was an absolutely personal experience of mine, with very few elements of fiction. Here is my first absolute fiction story blog, which I dedicate to the following people.
My dad, who encouraged my creativity right from day 1, be it mathematics, cartooning, or framing stories.
I would like to thank all my friends who read this blog and keep it alive. Without you, I wouldn't find a soul to read my work. Thanks a tonne.
I would like to thank The Godfather as it was one of the biggest movies which inspired in me a story in the father-son genre. I would like to thank the movie Aakhri Rastha/ Oru Kaidhuyin Diary which has been a huge inspiration to this movie, especially to the character sketch of Krishnamurthy Iyer.I would also like to thank the movie Dhosth, where PrakashRaj's Neelakanta Brahmachari made such a mark on me, that I decided to include the character as one in my story as such. Even large parts of the storyline are inspired from this. I would also like to thank the Da Vinci Code, for the suspense-keeping techniques it brought out to the whole world. I would also like to thank Kaushik who gave me the name 'Chappli', a character I finally employed in the storyline. I would finally like to thank god for the successful completion of the story and I wish I would come out with many more like this...
Thank you,
Ever urs,
GV..

Chapter 9

As Jhabak was worrying, he heard the wall behind him break. He turned back to find the 60 odd old man, making his way to the godown, breaking through the hollow wall of the godown in a Harley Davison. He rushed in with full speed. Guess who was sitting behing him? It was Meera. Hari was shocked, but at the same time pleased in the heart of his hearts!!

The bike came to a stop. The old man got down from it. Sensing the opportunity to bring all the nonsense to an end, Neelakanta Brahmachari said, "Police round up!!" This gave Jhabak his second shock of the day. He hadn't in his dreams expected that Ramesh would be a police inspector. As the police rounded the place, the old man walked up, and said, "Iyer, I'm Krishnamurthy Iyer." This sent a huge shock through Neelakanta Brahmachari and Hari. Jhabak's fears were confirmed. The old man was none other than Krishnamurthy Iyer himself. "When you let the ship sink, I was badly injured and before I could die, a Sri Lankan fishermen group saved me. You wanted the golden dagger which I found in my garden, but I refused to give you, and you made stories to kill me. I was treated for 4 years, and slowly I got better and better, and stronger than ever as well. I decided to have my revenge. When I came to India, I rushed home to find it a mess. Then, I went to the cremation ground where I cremated my wife, and from then, I have used the same golden dagger to destroy your clan. First your sons had their share of stabbing, with the dagger. Then the Fleming bastard was sent to the heavens with a golden bullet, the same way I killed Paranjape. Now, I am here to kill you." As he said this, one could see the revenge taking shapes on his face.

Jhabak immediately screamed, "FIRE!!", and his men started a round of firing. He fired at Brahmachari, but Krishnamurthy Iyer would not let him die, and he jumped across to take the bullet right into his heart. He slowly took out his bullet, and shot into Jhabak's temple. The shot went in through one side of the head and came out through the other. Jhabak and Iyer, once friends, died beside each other. Iyer, breathed his last on Hari's lap.

Hari and Brahmachari in the meanwhile, got the remaining shooters to calm down for a while, and they were all rounded up by the police. The case had been cracked, but none of the main involved were caught, all dead. Brahmachari took up the charge for killing Raju and told the court that it happened during an encounter, thereby saving Hari from any punishment. Brahmachari and Chappli were awarded gold medals for their work in the case. Brahmachari recieved Chappli's medal too, posthumously.

That evening, Meera came upto Hari and told him that she was there when the Jhabak brothers were shot. She vaguely recognised his father from the photographs of his she had seen. So she helped him recognise the place where Fleming had taken him by bribing Jhabak's driver. Then she admitted to Hari that the split was her fault and she wanted to be with him again. Hari, who was waiting for this moment, immediately accepted, and they went for a small walk, hand in hand, towards the beach, where Brahmachari was sitting, toasting his drink to Chappli's name, after mixing dosages of tea and whisky, and he gulped it in a minute, Meera and Hari watching in amazement laughing....

Chapter 8

Neelakanta Brahmachari reached the spot where Rajesh and Ramesh Jhabak lay dead. The moment Hari read this news in the paper, Neelakanta sensed the case coming to an end. He examined the two dead bodies, found the murder cleverly made. No hints whatsoever. But then he knew, whoever the killer was, his next attempt would be on either Fleming or Hari. So, he rushed back to the godown. There he found the whole atmosphere sober. Looked like something drastically wrong had happened. On further entry, he found a topless Fleming, having some ice-cool cappucino, along with two babes in bikini.

He realized something wrong had happened, but Fleming didn't seem to know anything about. He just sat at the entrance, waiting for some hint to show up by itself. It was then he heard a gun-shot. He rushed there, and found the two girls running in fright. Fleming had been shot on the head. From the back! The glass of the window behind him was flawless but for one circular opening. Fleming was murdered!! And Neelakanta's suspicions came true. The murderer had attempted Fleming. But Neelakanta had been even more intelligent. When he had come to visit Fleming, as he came from outside, he had set up a spycam in the room. He played the video the spy cam recorded. The first few minutes were all erotica, with Fleming having maximum fun with the girls. Suddenly, there was a gun aimed at the back. On zooming into that place in the video, he observed an old man, wearing glasses, gloves in both his hands, wearing a jet-black jersey, and a black trouser, using a small pistol, shot right into him.

This video was circulated all across the gang, and Ramesh passed immediate orders to everyone in the gang to observe whatever they could in the video. Then, the gang leader called Ramesh and told him that he would send the communicator to pass the further course of action. When the communicator came, Rames/Neelakanta Brahmachari was in for a huge shock. So was Hari. The communicator was none other than Raju!! He had sold his father, his mother, his company and also himself to the rogues over the years. Raju explained to Hari saying he shifted sides because he was given here triple the money he earned there. Hari's blood boiled. Now, he sooner than never, wished to see who the leader of the whole gang was. In a rush of adrenaline, he pushed the guys holding him hard, jumped on to Ramesh, and pulled out the pistol in his pocket. In a fit of rage, he shot at Raju, amidst screams of "don't" by Ramesh. Raju was shot on the head, a shot enough to seal his brain for good. Raju was dead, and this compelled Ramesh to call the leader. The leader was now furious at Hari, and he said he'll be there in an hour's time.

It was more than an hour later, the leader who none in the group had seen before arrived. He came in a huge Skoda. He got down from the car, and the very sight sent Hari into convulsions. It was, none other than Jhabak uncle. HITESH JHABAK was the bastard who had killed his parents, and the innocent John Fleming as well!! But, how did he even escape the ship sink? Hari was confused.

Jhabak entered and the others, the others who hadn't known their leader for this long, stood in a long silence. Jhabak first turned to Hari and said," Beta, you didn't expect this, did you? Ha, you've grown up a lot, since I last saw you. And how did I escape the sink? Because, the sink was organised by me. Your father was a good man who had taken a loan of 50 lakhs from me. I thought I could double it if I could take the insurance from his name, my assets would have doubled. I used the opportunity. DNP was my henchman 20 years ago, and half the reason he got his doctorate was me, I recommended him for it. He gave me his ship for a day, and it worked. I had taken a life-jacket with me, and I swam to the bank. Your poor father died!"

Hari was too shocked to even talk. Jhabak wanted to see the murder video of Fleming. He wanted to see if he could pick up any clues out of it. There he saw the face of an old man, but something similar to a person he had known. After he shot the man, he said something. On reading his lips, Jhabak deciphered it to be, "Buy him or his policy, both work the same way."
Immediately with his brow sweating, he said, "Oh no! The game is not over.."

Chapter 7

The old man slowly limped towards to the temple. He went in, crying for forgiveness, for the murder he had committed and for the ones he was going to commit also. He then took out a photograph, one which had Sharda and Krishnamurthy Iyer in it. He wept, as he saw the picture and his resolve for revenge became even stronger.

Neelakanta Brahmachari had decided that it was extremely necessary to play safe for a while, and wait for an opportunity to come by. He, as Ramesh was working with the 'villains' and was waiting for an opportunity to come by. In the meanwhile, Fleming was making plans to find out who was necessary for the murder of Narayan Paranjape.

Hari was at his office, when Raju picked a call, and then told Hari, "Hari saab, the call is from Ashtavinayak Garments. They want to have some tips from you, and so want to meet up with you at 3 this afternoon. Are you ok with it?" Hari was free that afternoon, and thus he decided to take up the meeting.

That afternoon, a car came to pick him up, and from there it took him to a dark godown. There, in the godown there was a blonde guy recieving him. On looking at him, Hari gasped with horror, "Fleming!!"

The reply came, "Yeah, Fleming! But George Fleming. There's a story you might not know. So better listen. My father, Christopher Fleming was a big business magnet in the US. He had two twin sons, John Fleming and George Fleming, that's me! He wanted John and me to have the best of education available and hence he sent us to study in India. We did our last two years in St.Michael's,Chennai and your mother Sharda taught us English. John was her pet, as he was too good in English, but me, being a dud in English, was her nemesis. She tried to get rid of me as soon as possible, simply because I wasn't as focussed as my brother was. I was soon kicked out of school, and I suffered for so many years because I hadn't even completed higher secondary school. Then, I joined the sea docks in Miami. I started smuggling drugs into the US, thanks to the access I had to the sea. Then, I started smuggling gold. Slowly, I became a criminal of repute inside the US. Then, I decided it was time to have my revenge. I came to Chennai and found Dr.Narayana Paranjape. He planned to murder your dad for whatsoever reason. Our gang leader had asked us to. I didn't care, because as long as your family suffered, I didn't have any problems with that. So, I used my shipping expertise to help him sink the ship. Then, we set Rajesh and Ramesh Jhabak against you, and made you paupers. Now, I had my revenge, when I shot my arrow into your mother, and in case you didn't realise, DNP meant Dr.Narayan Paranjape. Then, my brother who knew all the truth wanted to tell you the whole thing. But, I couldn't let that happen. He had been a hindrance to me all my life, and I had enough of him. So I decided to get rid of him. But suddenly DNP was killed, and he didn't have any enemies other than you. So tell me who killed him."

Hari who was still recovering from the shocks he had recieved from Fleming replied," I don't know. I was in no way involved in his murder. Please let me know who your gang leader is. I want to atleast know who masterminded the deaths of both my parents."

"You fool, we ourselves don't know. We recieved all our information through a communicator, and we followed all the instructions we recieved. But you do have a surprise in the form of the communicator, but you can wait to know that, I guess. Ramesh, take our guest in, and treat him specially." said Fleming in the most sarcastic of tones.

Ramesh took him in. There he revealed to Hari his true identity. Hari was delighted. Then he was also informed about what happened to 'Chappli' Vignesh. Now, Ramesh planned to make Hari escape somehow. Before that, he decided to hit on his tea cocktail. He offered a glass to Hari, which he politely refused. Then, Hari took up the news paper, and straight away dived into Page 3. He found a shocking piece of news there!! The plans were immediately changed, and they came up with a Plan B.

Chapter 6

Hari had known Dr.Narayan Paranjape, as he remembered that it was in the doomed ship of this guy gave him severe fears. Who had killed Paranjape? Was it done by a wellwisher of his, or was it done by someone who wanted him hunted down as well? Was there any correlation between the murders of his mother, Fleming and Paranjape? And, was Fleming actually dead and he'd seen only a look-alike at the CCC? Questions went all across his mind, shot in various angles across it. But to no avail. He was a confused man. "Hari saab, want coffee?" asked Raju. Hari nodded. "Aapka mannerisms bilkul Iyer saab ka jaisa hai (All your mannerisms resemble your father's)" said Raju, which brought a faint smile to Hari's face.

In fact, there was only one person who knew everything in detail. One person who could provide answers to all of Hari's questions, but giving them could take away a few revenge opportunities from him. He was the only person who knew Hari would eventually end up with all success, but not without a small hiccup. He was the only person other than the gangsters, who knew who 406789 was, who the guy Hari was being betrayed by was... The old man. But he had to wait. Till he had accomplished his mission, he couldn't let the cat out of the bag.

Ramesh was wandering about in the streets of Triplicane. He was wondering. He had seen the picture of the dead body of John Fleming. But yesterday, when he went to clear the body of his employer, he found George Fleming, a guy who looked ditto like John Fleming. Suddenly his thought wandered to Keshav. He hadn't come with Ramesh. He immediately rushed to the godown. There he found George. George yelled at him in a typically American accent, "Yo man, where've you been? We've been searching for you all evening. You think we're jobless duds, you bastard??" Then Ramesh told him that he'd been to Parry's to get some provisions for home.

Then George told him a few tricks of the trade. "Any guy found to be in contact with the enemy is generally killed immediately. We don't give him a chance, because when he has had contact with the enemy he might prove expensive to us when we don't expect him to be so. He might suddenly stab us from the back. We can't let a whole gangster empire succumb to one mistake", told George.

"That your telling me all this is in itself one huge mistake, George", thought Ramesh.

"So we are very strict about certain rules when it comes to the gangsters. Be it you, or be it even our leader."

"So you aren't planning to tell me who our fucking leader is??" thought Ramesh.

"Why I'm telling you all this is because it has become necessary for me to inform you about all this, so that you don't end up with the plight of Keshav."

"What happened to Keshav? I want to know immediately" asked a perturbed Ramesh.

"He recieved calls from Hari. And he attended them too. We immediately started doubting him for traitor. He might have even probably given some directions for the killing of Paranjape."

"Bullshit he gave!! We ourselves were overcome with surprise with the murder",thought Ramesh.

"So, we killed him. Here have his body.", said George, who passed to him, a bullet hit body of Keshav to Ramesh.

Ramesh took the body to the cremation ground and before he cremated, he wept. He cried thinking, "This was the hand which rounded the Bangalore gang. The great Chappli has been killed, and that too in incognito. I'm extremely sorry Chappli, I should have asked you to change your cell phone number. It was my mistake" and fell to the ground crying. Then after completing the last rites of Chappli, he went to a tea stand, where he asked for a cup of tea, half full. He took it, mixed to the half cup, a dosage of whisky and started thinking out the future course of plan and action...

Chapter 5

Meera was making love to Hari after 6 months. Both were in Hari's new furnished apartment in R.A.Puram. Hari was retaliating to each of her moves on the bed. Both fooled about for sometime, and in sometime the whole thing was done. Both lied beside each other, exhausted, when Hari, for the fun of it, asked her if she would marry someone else because her parents force her to. Short tempered as she was, Meera shot back at him, telling him that she would not be unfaithful to any partner of hers. But he kept making fun telling her that it would nice to talk this way, but it wouldn't work with her when it comes to actions. Meera got furious, dressed and left his place in a fury, telling him that they could bring their relationship to an end then and there because Hari didn't have the trust he needed to have in her. Hari begged her to stop, pleaded with her, but to no avail. Hari, left back at home, was devastated.

The old man, was getting his revenge ready. He got guns from a secret dealer, and had the gun dismantled into much smaller parts, which he kept in a small cover, and took it to the cave in which he stayed.

Hari was at the Chennai Citi Centre, finalising some details for his next business at the Food Court. As he was passing by the Pizza Hut, he gave a glance to the first floor way down as he found someone he knew. Yeah, he knew the person and it was, it was John Fleming!! John Fleming, alive!!

He rushed down to catch him before he left, but he was a bit too late. Fleming had gotten into a Mercedes Benz and had escaped. Immediately he called Chappli, and told him about this. Chappli promised him to look into the matter immediately!!

The old man knew every detail of how and why Sharda had been killed. He felt extremely guilty, but was helpless, and couldn't have possibly saved her because he was in hiding. He had planned the killing of Narayan Paranjape very skilfully. Narayan had booked a room in the hotel Park. He was to be given company by the biggest supermodel in the city, Saindhavi. She was an extremely beautiful and well-made female who was ready to sell herself to make a debut in the movies. If she successfully made it through this night, then Narayan would launch her in his Paranjape Picture's next movie Nallavan, which had kept under wraps the signing of a top star in the city for the same movie. The night was planned in Room 791 of the Park. Opposite the room at a distance 150m away was the terrace of a residential building. That was not to be a terrace that night, it was to be the old man's hunting ground. He had got a great view of the room and the fate of Narayan Paranjape was in his hands that night. He skilfully aimed at the window. Paranjape was undressed, and was doing the same to Saindhavi when blood slashed on Saindhavi's face. And again!! And once again!! Paranjape was lying dead, and so were her movie aspirations! A blonde guy came to check the noise out and was shocked to find Paranjape dead. He made a call and said, "Sir, this is George Fleming speaking. Dr. Narayan Paranjape has been shot dead. The assasin has escaped. Take some immediate action. Send Keshav and Ramesh to clear the body here."

Chapter 4

It was the India Pakistan final of the Asia cup. India were chasing 263 in 50 overs, and were at 195/5 in 43 overs. A thrilling match indeed where India had to score 68 off 42 balls with 5 wickets in hand. Hari and Meera were at the CCD in Nungambakkam, and there was more cricket than romance that evening. As they were watching it, Neelakanta Brahmachari came into CCD, and ordered a tea. Seeing him, Hari got up to greet him, and he joined the two at their table. They were talking when Hari told Neelakanta Brahmachari about John Fleming. Neelakanta Brahmachari was furious with Hari for have got a private detective to work without his permission. Flaring up, he mixed some whiskey into the tea and had a sip. He then told Hari he wanted to meet John. He told Chappli to come directly to the hotel where John was put up.

Hari asked Meera to return home and left for John's room with Neelakanta. On reaching the place, they were in for a shock. Chappli was there, and John was lying dead. He had been holed in by a knife, or a dagger. Hari suspected this to be the work of the person who killed his mother. He immediately asked Neelakanta for the list of killers. Neelakanta told him that the list was in his office and he could get it for him there.

On reaching the office, Neelakanta and Hari found the whole police station in flames. Someone is following us, or atleast observing us, Hari felt. So did the other two.

The next day, Hari was going by train to his office. There was an attempt on him, by two robust guys. They beat him up badly, so badly that he had to be hospitalised immediately. The two lads were arrested immediately. The police were sure that these people were part of the gang involving Hari's mother's murder.

A case was filed on them in court, but out of the blue there came a lawyer who came for them. He introduced himself as Karan Krishnan, or K.K as the whole court knew him. K.K was a lawyer of international repute, who was a master of law, be it Indian law, Australian law, American law, and English law. Everyone there knew that if K.K came arguing for a case, there was no way he would lose. The two guys smiled at each other, in a manner they were expecting his arrival. Hari was devastated and started sweating. K.K produced some evidence to show they weren't even involved in the beating up of Hari, forget killing his mother.

After they were freed, they were taken to a dark godown by K.K, a place which knew no light. There they were asked who they were. The two guys replied saying they were Keshav and Ramesh respectively, from the local slums in Mylapore. They wanted to know why they were saved. The man, who they thought was the head of the gang, came upto him and told, "Because enemies to a common person, are friends. And so the two of you are my friends." Then Keshav asked him if they were enemies to Hari. They replied in the affirmative, and then the leader of the gang, whose face was in the dark all the while, stepped out into light and said, "My boss has a score to settle. And so the family is going to experience the torture of the first order!!" Keshav and Ramesh now recognised him as the big tycoon Dr. Narayan Paranjape. They were shocked and wondered who would boss over a person as big as him. They were offered to work for him, and with a gleeful smile on their faces, they nodded.
